Need a simple, non-contact switch for a project?
This little hall effect sensor is super handy.
Here's how it works: when a magnet gets close to it (within about 10mm), it activates and completes the circuit.
It's a 2-wire device (brown for positive, blue for negative/ground), so wiring is straightforward.
The cool thing is it works with a huge range of DC voltages – anywhere from 5V all the way up to 240V – and it can handle up to 100mA of current.
The sensor itself is small, about 21mm x 10mm, with a 1.5-meter (almost 5ft) cable attached.
It's made of plastic and is great for all sorts of DIY electronics, automation projects, or even in machines for counting, positioning, or as a safety limit switch.
Just remember, it only detects magnets, not other metals.
